Genuine Firesleeve
Firesleeve is a generic term for a fiberglass sleeve that has been coated with silicone rubber.  It is generally used to protect hydraulic hoses, fuel and oil lines, wires, cables and other assets.

The base fiberglass material has a rating of 1000F continuous.  The silicone rubber coating generally has a rating of 500F continuous, with exposure to higher temperature permitted for a short duration of time.

Genuine Firesleeve (fire-sleeve) is manufactured from a high grade of E type fiberglass substrate sleeve which is then coated with self-extinguishing high temperature and fire/flame resistant silicone rubber.  Typical use is for the protection of hydraulic hoses, cables and wires from high temperature, flames, slag, weld splatter, sparks and contamination in industrial environments such as metal processing, heat treatment, robotic welding and glass making.

Knitted substrate firesleeve is used mostly for industrial applications such as steel mills, foundries, and other metal melting operations, robotic welding operations.

Briaded substrate firesleeve is generally denser, bulkier and thicker than the same size industrial firesleeve.  It provides a higher degree of protection, and a slightly higher insulation value as well. Braided firesleeve is always used for aviation applications, as the firesleeve meets the AS1072 specifications, and allows properly fabricated hose assemblies to pass AS1055D testing.
